Protect Your Identity While Traveling With These Travel Safety Tips

All across the world travelers embark on vacations to get away from their busy daily schedules. But increasingly crimes related to identity theft and credit fraud are following vacationers relaxing abroad or in cities across North America.

Here are some helpful travel safety tips you can take to minimize your chances of being a victim of identity theft or credit card fraud while traveling.


1. Don’t carry extra credit cards, Social Security card, birth certificate, passport or any travel papers in your wallet or purse.

2. Never leave your wallet or purse unattended.

3. Beware of distractions that criminals often scheme up to draw attention away from personal items so they are able to steal them without your knowledge.

4. Limit the amount of credit cards that you take with you on vacation or a business trip.

5. Never give out credit card, Bank or Social Security information by telephone unless you can verify that the call is legit.

6. Memorize your passwords and personal identification numbers (PINs) so you don’t have to write them down. Also be aware of your surroundings when entering your PIN.

7. Call law enforcement if you realize that you’re missing items containing your personal information.

8. Keep multiples copies of important phone numbers, such as your credit card company, bank and credit monitoring service, in separate areas of your luggage.
